keep your skin in check and aging gracefully, skincare products
Skin care feelings? How's everyone doing with skincare, you used moisturizer and eye cream, and today I'm trying toner. You did it one by one, obviously, but you didn't get a result? We will give you tips to get glowing and tight skin without any adverse results
Oily skincare steps
It doesn't seem like you're properly cleansing and dissolving oil. You should cleanse everyday with an oil cleanser followed by a clarifying cleanser. Oil dissolves oil, and the clarifying cleanser goes deep and cleanses out gunk. Really massage both in. If the oil cleanser doesn't wash away, I do a triple cleanse, oil cleanser, massage it in, clarifying cleanser on top to wash it away, and then a third clarifying cleanse that I massage in.
Step 1: Oil Cleanser - To dissolve the oil on your face(massage in!)
Step 2: Clarifying Cleanser - To deeply cleanse (massage in!)
Step 3: Toner - To start building moisturization in skin (no need to strip skin more, since the cleansing should have already done that!)
Step 4: Niacinamide Serum - To decrease pores and oil on skin + help lightly moisturize. Just a few drops, like 2-3!
Step 5: Vitamin C - You always need vitamin c! Also it gives more moisturization. Just a few drops, like 2-3!
Step 6a: (optional) - Moisturizing serum - Maybe add in a gel moisturizing serum. This might be helpful, or it might only be better when it's drier, or it might be too much. I'd
experiment with this! Just a few drops, like 2-3!
Step 6b: (optional) - Oil Serum - In drier times, maybe add in an oil serum. I'd experiment with this! I'd suggest only picking one between 6a and 6b. Just a few drops, like 1-3!
Step 6: Sunscreen - You always need sunscreen!
and you're not properly moisturizing to keep the oil at bay. Focus on both to banish the oil.
keep my skin in check and aging gracefully:
AM routine:
1. Wash face and neck with water. Do not dry with towel.
2. Use an acidic toner to wipe my face and neck, excluding eye area while face is damp/wet to retain moisture. Acidic toners keep our skin at the appropriate pH, particularly after using cleansers that are generally
3. Use vitamin c on face avoiding eye area. Drag down to neck.
4. Apply basic moisturizing cream to face, including eye area, and neck. My go to is Cerave in the tub with pump.
5. Apply sunscreen with spf 50 pa++++ to face, including eye area, and neck. I've been using sunscreen everyday since high school thanks to my sister. Best advice in preserving skin.
6. Lip balm.
PM routine:
1. Use oil cleanser to massage face and neck if wearing makeup. Rinse well.
2. Wash with gentle cleanser for dry skin if no makeup acne. Massage face and neck for 30 Secs to 1 minute Rinse well.
3. Let face air dry slightly until skin is damp.
4. Apply retinoid to face, avoiding eye area and neck. I get excessive dryness if I use it on my neck for some reason. But if you don't have sensitive skin, I've seen others drag retinoids down their necks.
5. Apply hydrogen peroxide spot treatment to nose, chin, and jaw.
6. Warm up in your hands and press() a pea size amount of moisturizer cream into face. Apply moisturizer to neck, chest, shoulders, arms and hands.
7. Warm a drop of castor oil between ring fingers and gently massage around eye area, orbital bone, and eyelashes and eyebrows.
8. Lip balm.
This may seem like a lot, but it is not and takes me 5-10
mins (depending on if I want to prolong the massage parts).
I also usually brush my teeth during this process.
I invest in actives that work for my skin and reduce the amount of products I put on my face. Due to my sensitivity, I prefer non fragranced, little ingredient products. My skin in my 20's was inflamed, dry, and I still got acne. I realized my product hopping habits were destroying my skin barrier and my skin couldn't keep up. With the era of dermatologists educating normal people on ingredients here, I have learned so much via YouTube. videos and am much more informed about the products I use. Less is more for sure!
Take the time to figure your skin type. Figure out what actives work for you, in what forms, and in what situations. When testing out products, unless you have an adverse reaction, test out the product for a month or longer to see if you are seeing results. Only introduce one or two at most new products at a time. I would stick to one at a time so you know which new one products is doing.
General skincare and the most important
First, exfoliate your skin. I use a full body exfoliator in the shower after shaving arms/legs, then I use a face exfoliator. I typically exfoliate twice a week, then I moisturize immediately after the shower.
Second, moisturize all the things! I personally use Burt's Bees stuff, but I also have used Shea Moisturizer and Aveeno with great success. Do this every morning and evening, and anytime you get out of a shower. The ideal is to keep your skin hydrated. If I have a problem spot (yay psoriasis), I use Aveeno eczema therapy lotion w/ colloidal oatmeal and it clears right up. I have one spot that is annoying though, so it gets a sheer rub of steroid cream once a week before bed.
Lastly, SUNSCREEN - protect your skin! My dermatologist says to use SPF 30 at a bare minimum. You can find some moisturizers that include sunscreen, like Aveeno Simply Radiant and whatnot, or get sunscreens that allow for makeup to build on it.
If you want your skin to even out and look softer, find a good foundation or tinted moisturizer. For everyday stuff, I use ColourPop Pretty Fresh tinted moisturizer. It smooths out my skin tone and leaves a really nice finish that sticks all day, even when working outside. If I need to look more glam, I use Clinique's Simply Even Better Glow.
Edit: forgot to mention - clean your face daily! I use a charcoal face scrub. It's light but cleans out my pores, I usually do it after exfoliating.
Also, if you shave, get yourself some witchhazel. After shaving, clean your face with a cotton round with some of the witchhazel on it. It will also clean up your face, clean out pores, and prep your face for a good moisturizer.
The most important skincare products
I made a short list of stuff I've used that (IMO) is effective, well tolerated,I tried to put in only products that don't have anything like AHA/BHA/etc that can be a bad mix or cause irritation so you can use these with a retinoid like Tretonin or your own choice of exfoliants/ serums / etc. but I could have made mistakes easily so double check.

hydrating cream
personally use many of the products in the "heavier" category both night and day but I separated them because I've heard of them being too rich for some people during the day etc. also some of them like Cerave and Cetaphil have an original version that is cheaper but I just put in their clearly labelled products for simplicity.
