What are the best general beauty and health tips (for women)?
You've done almost nothing to take care of yourself these past years. Your diet was worse than taking care to admit and skincare wasn't something you do after you shower?
Still trying to revive yourself, you're now looking for low-maintenance tips that are easy to stick to. We will provide you with everything you need and the most important step by step
How to make yourself healthy
One of the best things to do for yourself is to be healthy. Start with that, don't focus on appearance. I know this is a beauty sub, but honestly this would be my advice to you. Start with healthy diet including good carbs (complex, high fiber not sugary snacks) and vegetables/ fruits (eat the rainbow). Physical activities/ exercise, I cannot stress how important this is in conjunction with healthy diet. Our appearance relies in these factors as much as good skincare regimen.
Continue being kind to yourself, and one of the kindest things you can do for your body and mind is to start eating healthy and exercise..
•drink plenty of water, you hear it over and over again but it matters
•make sure you get plenty of protein & vitamin C (helps with skin repair, hair growth, etc)
•keep an eye on iron/serum ferritin levels because anemia and even "low normal" levels can cause a lot of health and beauty issues (fatigue, body aches, dark circles, weak nails, slow hair growth, brittle/breakage prone hair, etc), women of childbearing age need about twice as much iron in their diets as a man, and pregnant women need around twice as much as that, it's worth itto pay attention to your iron intake/needs
•low magnesium levels cause a lot of problems too, and most Americans could probably use extra magnesium in their diets (white beans are a great source, but if you get charley horses try a magnesium citrate supplement at bedtime)
•B-12 can be very helpful for energy and immunity and it's hard to get enough in our diets; it also works best with other B vitamins and is better absorbed sublingually (under the tongue) than via the digestive tract, so sublingual B Complex is good stuff to try if you are feeling run down, getting cold sores, catching lots of colds, etc (it gets even harder to absorb it from diet as we get older, this is why a lot of older adults get B-12 shots)
also in general just try to avoid foods you find imflammatory and bloaty. sticking to a good diet is hard. i recommend trying to make it as convenient for yourself as possible to eat healthy, and then basically just be your usual self with regards to eating but eat so much healthy food that you don't even have room in your stomach for the unhealthy stuff. i personally recommend a variety of meats, especially with the skin and connective tissue--the chewier and chonkier the better, you don't just want the muscle, stuff like chicken wings or drumsticks are great. then go for a whole rainbow of fruits and vegetables, try to make a habit of preparing a lot of them as soon as you get home from the grocery store, or buying lots of serving size/easily prepared things like apples, baby carrots, clementines, avocados, berries.
How to make yourself beautiful
Having a nice simple skincare routine. I for instance do:
•Am: Gentle cleanser + vitamin C on dry skin + after 5 min, lighter moisturizer + sunscreen spf50!!
•Pm: Clean1ser + hydrating serum on damp skin (HA, Cosrx mucin essence or similars)+ after 5 min, retinol/retinoid + after 10min thicker moisturizer
Remember to keep your products out the bathroom and take care of your neck and hands too. Double cleanse when removing makeup
Also, learning how to do your makeup based on your features and what looks good on you and that sometimes less is more. To me, makeup is all about enhancing what you already have
•drink some water, floss your teeth and use a mouthwash before brushing
•blast some fun music in the shower and be sure to do all the stuff you wanna do in there.
•moisturize after the shower. extend this to getting a moisturizer for your body skin too, i especially like getting my neck, forearms, hands, and elbows, any skin you have that is exposed daily.
•then while you're at moisturizing, add something like eucerin aquaphor to protect your lips.
•i have also found omega-3 fish oil pills to be helpful personally.
•hair is the most finnicky thing ever, start researching tosee what the best things for yours will be now.
•Get yourself a good cleanser and sunscreen. Then look around at different pictures of people you admire their makeup or fashion. And then slowly buy one piece here and there that matches it in an flattering color for you. It will help you decide what you don't or do like for yourself.
•As far as beauty, investing in good shampoo and getting a hair cut regularly does a LOT for your looks, and getting a nice face powder in your shade with a touch of blush. Discovering blush has been one of your biggest makeup aha moments. It does more than contour. It can be intimidating at first but it's made you feel so beautiful.
•sunscreen every day, find one you like and use it religiously, don't forget to apply to your ears & hands (I like Elta MD, Supergoop, CosRx, and Missha sunscreens)
•be gentle with your skin: no harsh scrubs or cleansers, no rough handling, no very hot water, these all cause more problems than they solve
•tretinoin is your friend, it's a lot more effective than OTC retinoids, so if you can get the prescription, do that • oil your nails & cuticles frequently, it helps more than you would think (I use Bio-Oil for this, and also use it as body oil after a shower)
Gerneral tips to be more beautiful and healthy
•Stretch in the mornings and before bed because it feels so d@mn luxurious. Get yourself a fat, fluffy bathtowel. Shower by candle light or nightlight. Doing a quick skincare routine before bedtime is no longer a chore, but a mini spa break. Get a high-dollar set of sheets (or at the very least, a soft, luxurious pillow case!) Slather on some coconut oil all over to make you skin glow like a million bucks. Turn your face up to the sun for 30 seconds when you get in your car just because it feels good.
•exercise improves circulation, which in turn improves skin & hair - it doesn't even take much, just get your circulation up for a couple of minutes a few times a day, do jumping jacks or run in place or whatever you can handle, the goal is simply to increase circulation
don't worry about trying to change everything at once. remember to just try to make 'snowball effect' changes and keep them in your routine. and do it every day regardless of whether you feel like it or not. as soon as you manage to take 'do i really need to do this today?' out of the equation you have a healthy habit.
